Winter weather is expected to return to Cyprus later this week with local rain showers, isolated thunderstorms and even the possibility of snow on the highest peaks of Troodos.

According to the Meteorological Service, the break in fine weather will begin on Friday with a slight drop in temperatures – which have averaged around 20oC over the past three days, night time temperatures have hovered at 8oC.Forecasters say the cloudy skies during the weekend could lead to local rain and some snow over the mountains.

The mountain areas have seen a period of mild weather, with Troodos Square recording daytime highs of 10oC and lows of 3oC.
