Winter arrives in Cyprus as snow falls in Troodos

Residents of the mountain areas of Cyprus are wrapping up as a new cold spell has arrived, with 30 centimeters of snow falling since last night on Mount Olympus. Fifteen centimeters of snow was recorded in Troodos Square.

Only cars fitted with wheel-chains or 4x4 vehicles are able to drive in the highest mountain districts.Overcast skies have brought showers and isolated thunderstorms, with some areas receiving torrential rain.

Winds will be north-easterly to south-easterly, moderate to strong, force four to five and in windward regions and over the mountains, very strong force six, over moderate to rough seas.

Temperatures will reach 12 degrees Celsius inland and 14 in coastal regions.
