Temperatures will be back to normal from Thursday with a maximum of 37C in Nicosia and 31C to 34C in the coastal areas, the meteorological services said.
Wednesday’s highest temperature in Nicosia was still above normal, reaching 40C, and on the coast 33C to 36C. In Troodos, the maximum was 27C.
Though Wednesday’s temperatures were still above normal no new warnings were issued, and there are none expected over the next few days, met official Panayiotis Georgiou told the Cyprus Mail. Yellow and orange warnings were issue on Monday and Tuesday when temperatures went over 40C.
The temperatures are expected to last at least until Sunday.
On Thursday, some clouds will form in the mountains and in the Nicosia area and isolated storms and rain are possible.
The coastal areas will be sunny with rather strong winds. According to the met office, they may reach up to 6 Beaufort in some areas along the south coast, and in most areas will be around 4 to 5 Beaufort.
Night time weather conditions were also improving with a drop from 26C on Tuesday to 24C for Wednesday in Nicosia and around 20C in the mountains are expected to last for the next few days.
