Winter is finally making its presence known, with rain and even storms due to begin today according to the met office.

After a long spell of sunshine, according to Marios Theophilou, meteorological service official, today will bring "cloud with rain and isolated storms, some of them quite powerful with strong winds in some cases and hail."

The temperature will also finally settle at normal levels for this time of year at 20 degrees in the mainland, 22 on the coast and 11 in the mountains. In November temperatures were five degrees above normal.Snow is also expected to fall on Troodos by Saturday afternoon, with more rain and storms throughout the weekend islandwide.

"On Sunday the snow will spread to various other mountainous areas and maybe even semi-mountainous areas," said Theophilou, also mentioning the fact that there will be a noticeable drop in temperature on Sunday.
