Met Office issues extreme high temperature warning for Saturday

The Met Office has issued an extreme high temperature warning for tomorrow when inland maximum temperatures are expected to rise to around 41 C.

The yellow alert is in force from 12.30 to 17.00 on Saturday.

“Be aware that high temperatures are expected. Some health risks amongst vulnerable people e.g. the elderly and very young are possible,” it said.

It follows a red alert from the Forestry Department warning of extreme high risk of fires because of the heat wave.

In its weather forecast, the Met Office said temperatures tomorrow will climb to around 41 C inland, around 36 C on the south, east and north coasts, around 33 C on the west coasts and around 31 C in the mountains.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will remain fine and warm with temperatures remaining at the same levels, which are noticeably above average for the time of year.

Maximum temperatures today were 38 C in Nicosia, 36 C in Limassol, Larnaca and Frenaros, 34 C in Polis Chrysochous, 32 C in Paphos and 28 C in Prodromos.
