The Forestry Department said on Tuesday that the Avakas Gorge nature trail has become extremely dangerous for hikers because of erosion following the recent rains and has therefore been closed to the public.

It apologised for any inconvenience to the public and said that it would be issuing an announcement once the damage has been repaired and the trail re-opens.

Moreover, the Forestry Department warned that a number of forest dirt roads have become very dangerous or inaccessible because of the rain and urged the public to avoid using them for their own safety.
